Resources | Types of Giving
Believers should give according to their income.
1 Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made
Note that the offering was set-aside on the first day of the week. Giving can’t be an afterthought, we must purpose in hearts to give every time we come before God. When we are willing to offer the first portion of our wealth back to him, then God knows he has our hearts. He knows—and we also know—that we are submitted completely in trust and obedience to our Lord and Savior.Giving is a kingdom principle; giving brings even more blessing to the giver than to the recipient.
Believers should give cheerfully.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully” (NLT)
Our attitudes must be positive when giving in order for us to reap the full benefits of sowing. We can’t afford to hesitate in blessing the house of God with our monetary gifts; after all this is key to releasing abundant living. Giving comes from the heart, so while man is looking at the outside, remember God truly knows what’s in our hearts.
Believers should give freely.
Luke 6:38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you
God promises that we will be blessed over and above that which we give and also according to the measure that we use to give. But if we hold back from giving with a stingy heart, we hinder God from blessing our lives.
